DBT TREATMENT MODES
Individuals in Dialectical Behavior Therapyreceive all the following modes of treatment:
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
Dialectical Behavior Therapy includes weekly individual therapy sessions in which various DBT strategies and procedures are used within an individualized treatment plan customized to meet the specific goals of the client.
SKILLS TRAINING GROUP
Dialectical BehaviorTherapyincludes a weekly skills training group which, unlike traditional group psychotherapy, is for the purpose of teaching skills that are organized into five areas:
MINDFULNESS -The practice of being aware, focused, and present.
EMOTION REGULATION -The ability to understand emotions, decrease emotional vulnerability and intensity.
INTERPERSONAL EFFECTIVENESS -The ability to have one's needs meet while maintaining relationships and self-respect.
DISTRESS TOLERANCE -The practice of tolerating painful situations without making things worse.
WALKING THE MIDDLE PATH -The ability to think dialectically, to validate self and others, and to understand basic principles of behaviorism.
PHONE COACHING
Dialectical Behavior Therapyclients have access to phone coaching. Skills coaching provide clients the opportunity to integrate new skills into real life situations with the support of their therapist.
DBT TEAM
Individuals in Dialectical Behavior Therapyare treated via a team approach. Weekly DBT team consultation meetings providetherapiststhe opportunity to collaborate, receive education and support, and provide cohesive DBT treatment while staying balanced in their approach. In DBT, a therapist is not considered to bemeeting the requirements of the treatment unless they are meeting weekly in a DBT consultation team.
OTHER PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
NEW DBT Intensive Outpatient program (IOP)
GenPsych, PC in collaboration with DBT Center of NJ is offering the first fully comprehensive DBT IOP in the state of New Jersey. DBT IOP is a more intensive structure than standard outpatient DBT. DBT IOP offers a jump start to learn DBT skills at a more intensive pace. DBT IOP also serves as a step down program for people who require more structure after exiting an inpatient program.
The Adult IOP Program meets 3-days a week for 3 hrs. (Mon, Wed, and Fri from 10:00-1:00).
The Adolescent IOP Program meets 3-days a week for 2 hrs. (Tues, Thurs and Fri from 4:00-6:00, including a Parent Group on Thurs).

INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES (ID) DBT PROGRAM OF CENTRAL JERSEY
Seed Consulting & Professional Services offers a specialized DBT program for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. DBT with Children
Focuses on emotionally vulnerable children and their families.
Children attend individual and group sessions. Individual sessions - combines play and behavioraltherapy. Parents attend skills training group.
FAMILYCONNECTIONS
is a free of charge,12-week research-based, manualized family program. Family Connections was specifically designed to meet the needs of family members who have a relative with borderline personality disorder(BPD), or symptoms of the disorder. The program seeks to provide the most current information and research on BPD, to teach coping skills based on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and to develop a support network.The groups are led by trained family members and NAMI Mercer County and the DBT Center of NJ have contrubuted to funding this effort. PROLONGED EXPOSURE THERAPY (PE) for POSTTRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD)
Prolonged Exposure (PE) is a cutting-edge cognitive-behavioral therapy designed to enable trauma survivors to deal with their feelings of fear, anxiety and stress. Many survivors of accidents, assaults and natural disasters suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and continue to feel extreme anxiety and helplessness long after a traumatic event. Symptoms of PTSD include sleep disturbance, difficulty concentrating, irritability, flashbacks and nightmares, extreme distress at reminders of the event, and loss of interest. PE therapy includes discussion of frightening thoughts, relaxation training, confronting safe situations and/or recall of painful memories via imagery to reduce their emotional impact.
EYE-MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION AND REPROCESSING (EMDR)
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment that was originally designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. Adaptive Information Processing model posits that EMDR facilitates the accessing and processing of traumatic memories to bring these to an adaptive resolution. After successful treatment with EMDR, affective distress isrelieved, negative beliefs are reformulated, and physiological arousal is reduced.
PROFESSIONAL EDUCATIONAL SERVICES
Training and consultation are available onand offsite for agencies and programs. Individual supervision is also available and Skills Training Groups can be arranged off site as well.
PSYCHIATRIC EVALUATIONS AND MEDICATION MONITORING
DBT Center of NJ can coordinate services with your current psychiatrist or refer you to psychiatrist that has experience prescribing for DBT patients.
Xueming Lisa Ye, MD, is a Board Certified Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist and also Board Certified in Addiction Medicine. Dr. Ye has extensive experience in treating children, adolescents and adults with a broad range of mental health issuesand is the Medical Director of GenPsych and prescriber for the DBT IOP program in Hamilton. Steven P. Levine, MD, is a Princeton adult psychiatrist experienced in providing medication support for DBT treatment. Dr. Levine works directly with the DBT Center of NJ, with a comprehensive approach to treatment. PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING AND DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATIONS
Psychological, Personality, and Trauma Assessment and testing is available off-site by a Psychologist licensed in PA. Clinical Consultant Gina M. Fusco completed the 10-day Intensive Training in DBT. She i s a clinical psychologist licenced in PA, specializing in the assessment and diagnosis of personality disorders, trauma and trauma related disorders. As an accomplished author and clinical assistant professor, she has published numerous textbook chapters on trauma, crisis intervention, personality disorders, and cognitive behavioral therapy. In addition, she has published books on Borderline Personality Disorder. As a consultant, she provides targeted assessments to assist in personality evaluation, case conceptualization, and provide an individualized overview of specific recommended treatment planning and interventions within a trauma-informed perspective.
